By on September 28, 2014

Because life is busy but we still want something flavorful in our plate.    Because salmon is the low calories dish that is nutritious and the whole family will enjoy.  Yes, even the kids love it.

How about a meal in 30 minutes from the fridge to the table?  Tempting, right?  And I love saying that I am eating the ‘right’ kind of fat.  Ah!

I didn’t even have to marinade my salmon because of its freshness.  Buy Canadian Salmon, there are so good!  With the dish, I used fresh ingredients to enhance my piece of fish.

A fall recipe: Lentils and 7 grains stew

By on September 16, 2014

Toronto has welcomed the gloomy weather.  Summer is gone, 15C has  become a warm afternoon. Everybody is looking their best in their fall clothing.  Warm colors are everywhere and comfort food and cosy diner recipes are back!   That’s right, let’s give a break to the blogging word with the summer salad recipes.

As sad as I am that summer was that short, we have to embrace fall and its beautiful colors.  I wanted a bowl of something comforting, something warm to hold with both hands, a stew.

Lentils and 7 grains medley rice

A sweet colleague at work gave me a crock pot, used just one for a potluck at the office.  I was so exited of my new toy, yes TOY, I am a foodie and a new thing in my kitchen is my toy.

I have never own a crock pot but I was considering it.  A lot of my entourage only swear by it in the winter and saying how wonderful it is since it does all the work.

ALL THE WORK?  But I like the work in the kitchen!  I really do :), call me crazy but it is my happy place what can I do.  However… however, I am a Mom too and taking it easy on  a week day is totally on the agenda!

Lentils and 7 grains medley rice

I have been meaning to cook some lentils for a while and entering the fall is a perfect reason to get a boost of iron.  I add some big Italian sausage (mild) from Costco and I do not enjoy them that much on the barbecue.  In the crock pot, it was perfect, the skin was more tender.

I also added some 7 grains medley from Uncle Ben’s, it has a bunch of ancien grains, I love those.  I have a thing for barley, you know.  Some broth, some cumin and a few other ingredients build a perfect dish for a chilly night.  The kids loved it!

Hold on there…
– Easy and simple
– Tasty and comforting
– Perfect for the whole family

I think we have a winner here!  Try this easy, smell-my-kitchen perfect easy-peasy stew recipe!

If you want a vegetarian option, just skip the sausage and voila!  Taste still amazing reheated… if you have any left over.

The cumin gave an perfect note of spice in the dish, the 7 grains were al dente and the lentils full of flavor with the broth.

Kid friendly chili con carne and pinky promises

By on September 3, 2014

Funny enough, there is no chili in there, nothing spicy.   But how would you call it?  See, it is like a chili but without chili peppers or chili flakes.   Really it is like one…   Only without the main ingredient!  Oh, I am loving my monologue, I feel like in an episode of Seinfeld or something!

Back to this perfect recipe for this end of summer and back to school, it’s an amazing juicy meaty dish that you can enjoy in a bowl in front of TV or at the diner table with your kids with a tortilla crepe.  The next day, pack it for your lunch at work and for your kid’s school lunch!

chili con carne

Some cheese like cheddar compliments that chili perfectly!  Shredded or a good chunck, your pick!  At home, the kids love a long string of melted cheese hanging for their mouth to the plate!  Well, not just the kids.
