A family affair: the cousin of the crème brûlée, la crème aux oeufs

This recipe, la crème aux oeufs or custard or pudding,  is in fact a recipe affair because it is my Maman’s!  What a success that recipe has in the house!  I really like that recipe compared to the crème brûlée because you are using the entire eggs not just the yolks.   Also, I always have milk for sure in the fridge, the heavy cream not all the time.  Crème brûlée is still my favorite though.

The consistency is still creamy but less richer and heavy.  It makes the perfect not-too-sweet dessert for all ages of the family.  Oh and did I mention how easy and quick it is?

  1. It is Sunday, it is snowing outside, this is what you need!   It is totally weather appropriate!  We are facing a tough Canadian winter, you definitely deserve a nice bowl of this soup.
  2. If you are not a soup person, this is going change your mind.  It is creamy, velvety , it is another soup experience.
  3. It will make you fall in love with butternut squash if you are not a fan.
  4. It is simple and I added rosemary in it, very flavorful.
  5. And… because I said so!

My big secret about crème brûlée…

I think it is about time that somebody demystify this recipe!  That amazing crème de la crème with a caramelized topping.  Mmh… I am sure you want one now and I will help you to make that happen.   Promise.

When I tell people who I prepared a crème brûlée, they are always ”wowed” and think I am a super chef because of that.  And sometimes because I am French too.

While I am happy to take that credit and those compliments, I have to share the secret with you, it is way too simple.  My go-to-recipe is FROM a book!  Of course, I am like you.  I am not going to reinvente the wheel, specially when it is just perfect.
